PRINT Marketing Internship (Week Six)

This week I got a lot of posts done for PRINT!

One of our main goals for PRINT in terms of marketing is to increase outside involvement in the project, and I’ve heard from Kayla that this has already been a success! In fact, this week she received a message from Zooniverse, the platform that holds our project and letters so they can be transcribed by anyone, anywhere. The Zooniverse team saw how we were revamping our socials and offered to feature PRINT on its home screen for the next 2 weeks! To say I’m beyond excited for the PRINT team is an understatement. I am so excited that the work of Kayla, Sarah, and I has been noticed and appreciated. It means so much to me! This achievement was a huge motivator for me this week, which was much needed as we near the middle of the semester.

On Wednesday after our meeting, I got started on two posts for our socials, which I posted on Instagram (but still need to post to Twitter and Facebook!). The first is a post that Dr. Beiler suggested about some new Dutch letters that got uploaded onto Zooniverse. I actually got help from one of our team members, Brandon, for this since he is on the team that works with these letters! He gave us a caption for the post, but also gave me some insight on friendly Dutch greetings I could use to introduce posts about these letters in the future. Normally, I’ll open our posts with “Hello Friend!” as a nod to how Quakers (and our team!) greets each other, but since these were Anabaptist letters, I wanted to be culturally conscious of how I post about these religions and their greetings since they are distinct and different. This aspect of my work is extremely important to me since my goal with a career in marketing and PR is to use my background in history to be as socially aware and respectful as possible, and to help others do the same. Brandon explained that the Anabaptists typically didn’t have friendly greetings like the Quakers, as their letters are mostly business-focused, but he did offer some suggestions as to what I could use going forward.

My second set of posts this week were advertising our transcription workshops on Tuesdays and Fridays! I was really excited to get these up since I had been working on them for a while but couldn’t find a layout that I liked. I felt like I struck gold when I finally made everything work! The posts are also available as stories that can be viewed and reposted on the Instagram at any time and serve as reminders for each workshop. Next week I’m going to get back to the Marketing Plan using the notes that Kayla gave me in order to present everything to Dr. Beiler!
